No picture today, because well, how good does BBQ sauce look in a jar? Not something spectacular. Anyway, I made some the other day, and well, it's not what I really wanted. Not bad, but not what I was going for. Probably because I picked a recipe that probably wasn't what I wanted. I used the Two-in-One Barbecue Sauce recipe using just the Stampede-Style Sauce. The thing was, I used tomatoes that I had frozen, and then drained the water off of, so it was already a thick puree when it went into the pot. I put everything in together right away, not needing the boiling down time for the tomatoes. But then it was TOO thick, and too spicy! So, I added some brown sugar and more vinegar. I don't mind a vinegar based sauce, plus, it makes it safer to can!
I will say, this is a tasty sauce, and I'm sure we'll use it on something, but I was going for a more BBQ-y sauce, and this wasn't it. I suppose I'll have to keep looking for recipes, but I'm about tomatoed out for the season.
I have been looking for a good BBQ sauce recipe, so keep us updated on your experiments! All of mine turn out vinegary and not too smoky. Like yours, they are still tasty, but not what I was really looking for.
